GarageBand is a music creation and production application for Mac OS X. It includes a multi-track recorder, a synthesizer, a drum Machine, and a variety of effects. It is available free of charge

Tools

GarageBand comes with a number of tools that can be used to create music. The most important of these is the multi-track recorder, which can be used to record and playback audio. The synthesizer can be used to create sound effects, and the drum Machine can be used to create rhythm tracks.

Features

GarageBand includes a number of features that make it a powerful tool for music creation. These include:

A multi-track recorder that can be used to record and playback audio

A synthesizer that can be used to create sound effects and melodies

A drum Machine that can be used to create rhythm tracks

A variety of effects that can be used to add sonic effects to your music

How to Use GarageBand

To use GarageBand, first open the application and create a new project. Then, start recording audio or creating sound effects. Next, add melodies or rhythms to your music using the synthesizer or drum Machine. Finally, add effects to give your music a unique sound.

You can then export your music project to a variety of formats, including MP3, AAC, and WAV. You can also share your music projects with other users via the Internet or through a file sharing application.

Set Audio/MIDI Preferences

Pop-up menu for Output Devices: Choose from all the installed Core Audio devices and the sound hardware.

Input Device pop-up menu: Choose between any audio devices that you have installed. That includes the internal sound hardware.

Click on the box that says “Enable audio units” and allow your GarageBand projects to use the audio units plug-ins.

Inside GarageBand, go to preferences –> audio/MIDI and check out all the options for creating output audio.  When you see that the speaker input that your speakers are plugged into is listed, choose that option.  If you do not have built-in output, or built-in audio, your built-in speakers should play.

Also check the system preferences: Sound –> Output, and choose the device that should be used from the list.

In GarageBand, you are able to choose the audio interface that you want to output from your project, but there is no way to route the stereo out of your project to a specific output channel, especially if the output device has multiple outs.

Why is GarageBand not producing any sound?

Do not plug your external audio interface into your Mac. Open GarageBand, select GarageBand > Preferences > Audio/MIDI. Choose the output device that is built in from the output device pop-up menu. Choose the input device that you want to use. From that list, select the built-in microphone (or built-in input, depending on your computer).

When you’re using your computer’s built-in microphone, select the built-in microphone as the input source in GarageBand, > Preferences > Audio > Devices. When you connect your microphone to your computer’s audio input port, if it has one, select the built-in input as the source for your track.
