Apple’s GarageBand allows you to create musical scores using the built-in virtual keyboard. You can then use it to perform the songs and get feedback on your performance. They’re often used to create covers of popular songs.

The virtual keyboard allows you to make chords, perform vocals and sing melodies. You can also record your own voice for backing tracks. It’s a fun way to compose music, but there are many things that need improving about it. This isn’t all due to the fault of GarageBand. Sometimes, you just need a little extra help when it comes to playing an instrument. That’s where this tutorial comes in!

GarageBand Keyboard Features and Tools

To make it easier to play GarageBand, you need to learn the notes on the keyboard. This will help you get a better understanding of how your song works and what kind of music you’re making.

You can use a number of tools and features that allow you to learn more about the piano keyboard or customize its appearance. You can also create custom key commands and save them for later use when writing songs in GarageBand.

How to Set Up Your GarageBand Piano Keyboard

Do you want to add notes to a GarageBand project by playing the piano, but don’t have a MIDI keyboard? Take advantage of the built-in keyboard shortcuts and the Musical Typing feature to play different notes on your Mac by making use of the keyboard shortcuts.

You will need to open GarageBand on your Mac. If there is an existing project running on your Mac, open it by selecting New in the Choose a Project window, then Choose to Empty the project. If the track is not already selected, start GarageBand by clicking the small plus sign next to the track you want to play. Select Instrument and click Add.

Musical Typing in GarageBand is a simple, compact keyboard that lets you assign letters to the keys that correspond to the notes on your keyboard.

When you press a key, it will play the note that you are pressing for the duration that the key is held down, and stop playing the note once the key is released. If you press Tab, the note will continue to play, even if the relevant key for that note is pressed. Any notes that you play while GarageBand is recording are stored in your project, and you can tweak it later, the same you can do to a MIDI keyboard input.

How to Adjust Your GarageBand Piano Keyboard

You can also change the number of keys that are used on your keyboard. Click and drag the blue box at the top of the keyboard window and drag it down to find the keys you’re going to use. You can then use the arrows to the left and right to select the keys that you want to use.

If you want to change the speed at which notes are played, click the Smart Controls button in the top left corner of GarageBand.

When you see the Keyboard Sensitivity box on the bottom left of the keyboard window, just click the slider to make the adjustment.
