There are smart instruments that allow users to play chords by tapping on a chord strip on the screen. In GarageBand, there are many kinds of smart instruments. For example, there are smart piano, smart strings (including violin, viola, cello, and bass), smart guitar, and smart bass.
Open up the GarageBand app and scroll down to the instrument you would like to use. Select Smart from the list on the left.
There will be a screen that displays the part of the instrument that is selected. There will also be various chord strips.
In this smart instrument setup, tapping or strumming a string produces a chord. By doing this, you will learn how to play chords.
How can you put the chords?
- Tap the settings button on the control bar and tap Edit chords.
- Tap the chord strip that you are going to use for the custom chord.
- Swipe the chord wheels in order to set the chord root and the chord quality, and you can also add an extension (added note).
- When you finish doing that, tap done and return to the song.
